Lesson 2: Projectile Motion
HookSplit students into small groups. Each group will be given two different types of balls (football, soccer ball, golf ball, etc.). Groups will discuss various factors that must be taken into account to describe the flight path of these balls. The teacher should walk around the class and ask groups and ask guiding questions in relation to projectile motion. After group discussions a class discussion will take place on important factors that effect projectile motion. For this activity, if the weather permits, the class could be taken outside so they could experiment with throwing the balls to aid their discussion.
ActionProvide a multiple choice quiz on the concepts of projectile motion using an online quiz. Students can answer either through internet, text message, or if needed written answers. If resources are available the teacher should provide technology for the students who do not have to use. Anonymous results are shown to the class.
DebriefUsing the results of the quiz, teacher can address students' misconceptions regarding projectile motion.
